Game Plan With Your Fiancé
Planning a wedding is a team effort. It is true there is probably one of you in the relationship that is more of the planner and that may be a little more proactive in the wedding planning. But, it is a wedding for the both of you, so you want to be sure you’re on the same page from the beginning- especially when time is limited!
Here are three things you should immediately get figured out with your partner if you want to successfully plan a wedding quickly.
Date
All of your wedding plans, and I do mean all of them, are going to be effected by the date you choose. So, that is one of the very first things you need to get figured out.
Budget
There are a lot of expenses when it comes to planning a wedding so figuring out your wedding budget in the very beginning is very important. This will help you to move forward with planning your wedding confident that you aren’t overspending and that your money is going to the right places.
Read this post to get tips on how to save money and plan a low budget wedding that you will still adore!
Guest List
The third really important thing to figure out as soon as possible when planning a wedding in a short amount of time is the guest list. Not only do you need to notify the guests of your wedding quickly, but the amount of guests you have will also have an impact on a lot of your wedding planning decisions.

Get Together A Checklist to Plan Your Wedding
There are going to be a lot of decisions to be made and things to figure out, so getting organized is definitely important. Creating a wedding planning checklist will help you keep track of what’s done, and what needs to be done. If you’ve read any of my other posts on wedding planning, you know that I am a big fan of The Knot as a wedding planning tool.
I used this tool when planning my wedding and it was so helpful. When you create an account (which is free) it will ask you some questions about your wedding and preferences, and based on your answers it will create a very detailed and timed out checklist for you to follow.
But whatever method you choose, a wedding planning checklist is essential!
Get to Pinning- Create A Wedding Planning Pinterest Board
Pinterest was a huge help when I was planning my wedding. There is no end to the wedding ideas and tricks that you can find on Pinterest, so if you’re stuck or searching for some inspiration I would definitely start there!
Book Your Venue
When planning a wedding quickly one of your first priorities should be booking a venue. Venues often fill up quickly and a long ways out, so immediately figure out some options and get into contact with them. If you are having trouble finding available venues, consider having your wedding during the week. Often times venues not only will be available during the week, but they will offer a discount in price.
Book Your Other Vendors
Similarly to wedding venues, wedding vendors book up quickly. So, when you plan a wedding in a short amount of time it is really important to get into contact with vendors as soon as possible. Who are some vendors you should be searching for?
- Wedding Planner: Personally, I opted to not have a wedding planner. However, if you want a wedding planner to help you plan your wedding then they are one of the first things you should figure out. An important thing to know is that some venues may require that you work with a wedding planner if you want to book their venue.
- Caterer: If you are having a difficult time finding any available wedding caterers don’t lose hope! It may help to look at some non traditional options such as food trucks, or going for a beautifully arranged charcuterie board instead of a full meal. Pinterest is a huge help with catering ideas!
- Photographer/ Videographer: Get into contact with wedding photographers quickly, as well as wedding videographers if you choose to have one.
- Hair & Makeup: If you are having your hair and makeup done professionally it is a good idea to book a stylist and makeup artist quickly before they are booked out!
- DJ/ Music & Entertainment
- Florist: This is a little less time sensitive than the vendors above, but it is important to figure out who you want as a florist for your wedding and what you want as soon as possible.
- Cake Baker: Wedding cakes are a beloved tradition, and if you’re having a beautiful cake at your wedding you will need to get in touch with a cake baker quickly!
- Officiant: You also of course need someone to officiate your wedding, so getting an officiant lined up is a must!
Choose Your Wedding Day Attire
The wedding dress is one of the most important parts of planning a wedding, especially if you’re the bride! Both the brides wedding dress and the grooms suit or tux will likely need some alterations, which can take a little while. So finding your wedding attire quickly will help everything go smoother!

Choose Your Wedding Party
Your wedding party also need time to plan and prepare themselves for your big day, plus they will be a huge help to you while you’re planning your wedding. Make sure you choose your wedding party early on in planning a wedding so that they aren’t rushed and they can help!
It is likely the groomsmen will plan a bachelor party and there are also bridal showers and bachelorette parties that will need to be planned, so allowing as much time for that is ideal!
Send Out Invitations
The Knot offers a ton of beautiful stationary designs for your wedding invitations. It is important to choose and send out your invites quickly so that guests have an appropriate amount of time to plan and RSVP to your wedding. Something to consider, especially when planning a wedding quickly, is virtual invitations. These will be easier and quicker to send out and receive responses.
Create Your Wedding Website and Registry
Choose a place to host your wedding website, as this will be the quickest way to inform your guests of updates and get any information to them necessary. Of course, I recommend The Knot to host your website as well as create your registry, which is another thing you will want to get done quickly. Guests and other loved ones will want to know what to get you the second you announce your engagement!
Don’t Expect Everything to Go Perfectly and Don’t Panic
I don’t think any wedding in the history of wedding’s has ever gone 100% perfect. Don’t sweat the small stuff and trust that everything will work out. You’ve got so many people who love you surrounding you and their to help you on your big day, and everything will work out.
The day before my wedding I realized the neckline of my wedding dress was very irritating and causing my neck to turn bright red. I was stressed, because it was far to late for any alterations and I don’t know the first thing about sewing. One of my amazing bridesmaids came to the rescue though and we stayed up until 1am fixing my dress, but we succeeded and all was well on the day of the wedding!
The point is, there will most likely be a few hiccups when planning your wedding but don’t get to stressed and enjoy one of the best days of your life!

We planned our wedding in 8 months and whenever I’m asked I say to keep the engagement short. Wedding planning will take as long as you have (and I personally found it pretty overwhelming) so I was glad to keep it contained in 8 months! We did most of the things you mention here too!

This is a great list and really helpful for someone wanting to marry! I eloped so I wouldn’t have to deal with the stresses and finance side of a wedding but this makes it sound a lot easier!

I can understand that! There are definitely ways to reduce the stress and expense of planning a wedding but eloping can be beautiful too!

I plan events for a living but it was great to read this from the bride/guest’s perspective than the staff. Also, my favorite category was don’t panic, that is definitely what I try to keep in mind when running an event. That nothing ever goes perfectly, but figure out a solution on the fly (which is easier as the planner than the family).

Thanks for reading! It’s so true that not everything is going to go perfectly but chances are it’s an easy fix or isn’t a significant problem, so it’s not worth stressing over!
